through each chapter of the Leaving, we were offered different perspectives from characters, many of the chapters ending on cliff-hangers. the premise is simple; six children go missing, and then eleven years later are dropped off at a park with no recollection of anything other then their names. the build-up, the mystery, of what is actually going on was executed beautifully. scarlett’s chapters were written creatively, different fonts and word designs helped elaborate on her thoughts and desires. i did not care for avery and lucas as much, especially their relationship. and although the mystery of the Leaving was very well written, the ending was a disappointment. the sci-fi ending seemed rushed, and the explanation for max’s death didn’t seem to be as big of a deal as it was thought to be. i wish kristen and scarlett’s relationship could have been elaborated on more than avery and lucas’s. overall, i still loved the creativity the author took with the story, and admire her bold choices such as different perspectives and the ending.
