I genuinely enjoy this show! Not going to lie, I was surprised when I saw a trailer on YouTube, I didn’t think it was wisest that all the children were biracial looking in an era where colorism is so heavily talked about. But if you watch the first full episode, those thoughts are clarified with perfect sense. Tia’s character, Cocoa, is a biracial woman, just as Tia is, so it makes sense that her children are of fairer complexion. They even explain that the oldest is so light because she takes after her white grandmother- and they bring some realistic humor into it that I can relate to into it, by jokingly teasing her for being the super light skin one in a black family. It’s actually a good and accurate reputation of black families.
Each and every one of the kids are so adorable and hilarious and I was very impressed with their acting. Tia KILLS her role & so does Loretta Divine. I will say, they are DEAD WRONG for allowing Jade’s hair to look like that, it’s actually very distracting to where my husband, a man who knows NOTHING about hair/weave can’t help put focus on it. But overall, she’s a good fit for the show & they get rid of it further in the season. I still enjoy it. It’s a feel good type of show about relevant topics to black culture. They are just one of the few shows nowadays to do it in such a PG, lighthearted way. I hope they keep it coming with new episodes because I genuinely enjoy it, corny & all. It almost gives me nostalgia, like it fits right in with The Proud Family, The Cosby Show, etc...
