I never read the book but I have listened to Barry López reading it several times in the audio version. It consists of two stories. The Dance of the Heron and The Logjam are so descriptive, you can not only see it in your mind’s eye, you can feel and smell the environment that he describes. Audio version is highly recommended .

Good so far. I just finished episode 2 of Season 1. I hope it continues to be as good. Ok, I am into the 9th episode right now. Still good, but pretty predictable. Each episode has a problem that you know will get fixed at the end although the water problem is still ongoing. Getting pretty tired of the whiney daughter and the women crying every 2 seconds. I hope these last 2 episodes pull up a bit from these scenarios.
