The movie is a visual spectacle with no depth. It’s like watching a sound and light show, beautiful to look at and nothing else. History or fiction, the same good v. Evil and one-dimensional characters that have haunted Hindi cinema for ages is back at it again.
Nauseatingly sweet Prince Charming marries beautiful damsel in distress, while a single toned black villain is vying for her. Now where have we seen this before? Perhaps in every children’s story. Unlike fairy tales history is full of various tones of grey. SLB has failed miserably to portray that. SLB it’s a shame you caged your creativity in fear.
What bothered me the most is how shabbily the issue of JOHAR was handled. Glorified as an ultimate act of sacrifice? Shame! A social evil could have been handled better. If it wasn’t that everyday women are killed by family for their ‘honour’ or killed in womb for ‘honour’ or sacrificed for ‘honour’; why not beat our drums and encourage them to kill themselves?!? Surely suicide is easier to cleanup than murder. (Yes I’m being sarcastic). I see the act of Johar as a solemn act of helplessness not an act of empowerment as the movie portrayed.
One time watch as a visual treat. But guard yourself against the ideas propagated by the film.
