Was that romance supposed to be cute? Because it certainly wasn't. When your underaged protagonist starts to fall for the advances of her teacher (who is probably at least a decade her senior and as her tutor is in a position of power over her), that doesn't raise any red flags? No. It's disgusting and toxic. I rolled my eyes at the author making such a big deal of Brienna turning 18 in the middle of the book so "it's totally ok guys I swear look she's not a minor". No. Stop that. It's disgusting.
The rest of the book was mediocre at best. The author couldn't decide if she wanted to write the school plot or the kingdom overthrowing plot, and so instead of choosing decided to mash the two together, making for a boring, incoherent kind of mess. The disgusting pedophilic romance kinda ruins and distracts from everything that could be considered good.
