I found this to be a compelling read and, although (in the author's words) 'it isn't exactly an autobiography' it does have a refreshing honesty that provides an interesting insight into the author's somewhat complex and anguished experience of life - always interesting from a reader's point of view. The descriptions of Porthcastle/Porthleven and the surrounding area are particularly evocative and his boyhood memories will resonate with the experience of many of his readers, especially those born in or just after the War. I heartily recommend it.
