A very good movie.
Not an out and out political thriller alone but covers other things as well.
It starts with the death of the legendary leader and the question of succession. But then the movie does not just deal with that . It delves into other things as well. Well!!! Baakki theatril kandaa mathi :)
Went for the movie for lalettan, raju's debut and Murali Gopy's script. I have been a very big fan of his previous scripts.
Went to the movie being a little scared hoping this wont be another Odiyan.
And what to say it did not disappoint me in any aspect. A very sumptuous Vishu sadhya in advance.
Good characterization and weightage to all. Even for all the supporting cast as well. The film may be bit slow for some. But again that is due to the time it takes to establish characters.
No comments about Stephen Nedumpully aka Lucifer aka Lalettan. Enthu parayaana aa manushyana kurichu. Paranju maduthu. He has entertained us always and will continue to do so. (Ingere pole mundu udukkaan vere aarundu ;) ).
Stephen Nedumpully will join the legendary club of Aadu Thoma, Mangalassery Neelakanthan, Chirakkal Hari, Poovalli Induchoodan, Jagannathan, Sunny Joseph, Managalassery Karthikeyan, Vincent Gomez, Nettoor Stephen, Puli Murugan, Mullankolli Velayadhan, Jacky and the long list of ettan characters. (Wonder how he gets such majestic names!!! :) :) :)... Thanks to all those writers)
Tovino, Manju, Vivek, Saikumar, Indrajith all have meaty roles which they excelled. Even Baiju, Kalabhavan Shajon, Nandu, Suresh Menon, Fazil and Sania Iyappan who had smaller roles excelled in them. Prithvi also excelled in his extended cameo. Infact the weightage to the other characters helped to escalate the mass of Lucifer.
Nice scripting. It is not as complex as the previous Murali ventures. There were some good dialogues. Pretty much straight forward story but with occasional twists. Cinematography and shot placement is taken to vera level. There was a dark undertone to the movie. I specially liked the color tone of the movie. The white khadar dress colour which came maximum in the movie stood out superbly. The crowd scenes were nice.
Stunt sequences were also neatly executed. Lalettan and Prithvi rocked in them. Not too much of superman fights.
BGM... Well it is a character in the movie. Very good.
The few songs it had were good. Not superb. But definitely good.
There was a tamil and hindi song along with a malayalam song. The tamil song was nice for building up the mass in lalettan. The hindi one is an item song. Well i am not sure if the placement of that was necessary or not. But was able to hear Bollywood standards in the movie.
Direction is more tougher than what it is when we see from outside and Prithvi has done the part beautifully. The film oozes with his confidence. As a self confessed fan, he has payed the right homage to Lalettan. It did remind me of what Karthi Subbaraj did in Petta. It seemed like he has clear idea on how to lead this movie and how to get the things done from everyone.
Over all a brilliant movie. Not a pitch perfect one. But a very good one. Some might find the picture a tad too long or unwanted item song and all.
But for me and innumerable Lalettan fans; it is a visual treat.
Lalettaa ningal oru sambavam aanu, vikaaram aanu, viplavam aanu, prashtaanam aanu... Nenjinagathu Lalettan... Nenju virichchu Lalettan...
Finally a big thanks to Murali Gopy and Raju ettan for giving me Stephen Nedumpully.
THERE IS ONLY ONE KING... AND HE WILL BE RULE TO ETERNITY...
