BRIEF REVIEW AND THOUGHTS ON WONDER WOMAN 1984
I’ve just seen Wonder Woman 1984 in its entirety, and here’s my brief review of the movie without any MAJOR spoilers that would ruin the movie for those who haven’t seen it yet. The first Wonder Woman movie may have been better by only a hair as WW84 was really a great film, IMO. Most of the people who are complaining that they didn’t like it, or that it was only okay are mostly claiming that it didn’t have enough action, or that it was overindulgent or self-absorbed in its nostalgia, or for some reason it just didn’t meet their high expectations. Okay, like most 2 ½ hour movies, the first half of WW84 was a little slow (but not boring) in the action department as the movie was establishing the plot and the personalities and motivations of the new characters, as well as the return of the Steve Trevor character and Gal Gadot was mostly in Diana Prince mode, especially during the first half of the flick. But the movie had it’s fair share of light humor, fantasy, drama, emotion, brief romance, and action, throughout. As far as the movie being “overindulgent and self-absorbed”, some folks (probably people born after 1990 and millennials who weren’t around to experience this decade) said that it was too 80’s. But I remember director Patty Jenkins saying in so many words that she would touch on many 80’s themed issues in this flick. Like the first movie, the performances were great, especially by the lead Gal Gadot, and 70's Wonder Woman Lynda Carter has a fun cameo. The opening scene which took place on Diana’s island home of Themyscira was a fantastic opening and the scenery of this location was just as great as it was in the first film.
Wonder Woman 1984 will be available on HBO/MAX until January 28 and Warner Bros. has confirmed WW84 for a premium VOD release in the UK as a 48-hour rental on January 13, 2021. The film will also be available on home video in the form of Digital HD, Blu-Ray/DVD, Ultra HD Blu-Ray, and DVD on March 23, 2021, and it will return to HBO/Max permanently at a later date in 2021. I think everyone should “EXPERIENCE THE WONDER” for themselves this New Year’s holiday if they haven’t already!
