I think they were trying to recreate Sense8. I didn't like it.
The whole fetishized slavery aesthetic: It doesn't feel good anymore watching black girls/women play out traumas so hollywood can make money.
Also as a South African I think whoever chose the Brenda Fassie song probably just typed in 'African songs' on google.
Thats a 'South African' WEDDING song.., being played in 'Kenya' in a FLING scene.
As a whole... it was a stale slowburn relying on emotional triggers to make the story interesting. Eg: rape, slavery, violence, trauma..
Basically hollywood writing what they think women enjoy seeing..
I did not enjoy this.
I hope it is the last 'woke' series we have to watch
