It isn't that it is bad music...it's John Mayer, its not gonna be BAD. Its just so shallow, and frankly boring. Someone commenting on another hit it on the head, saying that he's sounding more like Jerry Garcia than SRV these days...and I think that's where he's losing me. There's just no electricity to his music these days. There's actually a handful of songs on this album that I will never intentionally listen to again, and that's a first for my experience with his music. Artists should be allowed to experiment, and fail in the process. They're artists (see Jack White, Boarding House album)! But this isn't a failure in experimenting...it's a failure in trying. Oof.
