It's a tonal mess of a movie - Wan seems to want to jam as many genres into the movie as he can, which really only confuses the movie more. If you're confused watching this, don't worry, the movie is just as confused as you are.
Exposition is the only thing that's really used to push the movie ahead, and it often comes out of left field as jarring and desperate. As soon as the plot is ready to dry up, Wan comes along to drop a heap of information - most of which you don't even need since the entire movie doesn't have any twists or turns that haven't already been seen in a sci-fi or horror movie.
Acting is terrible, and something you'd expect from a lifetime movie. Often with jokes or lines that tear you out of the movie, or seem completely outlandish for a human to say, even if this was a made for tv movi.... which it isn't....
Long and short of it, the entire movie comes off as a vapid, made for tv, crossover movie/episode of CSI and the X-Files (not in a good way), with one extremely out of place scene that's reminiscent of the church scene from The Kingsman.
Bottom line, find a better way to lose the two hours you will with this movie.
