One of the strangest documentaries I have ever seen. What really came through more than anything else, even the mythmaking of Elizabeth Holmes, was the greed of all involved. The thirst of those in Silicon Valley to commoditize such a complex and personal thing as a blood test, to the Darth Vader-like grip of the blood testing giants LabCorp and Quest, to all the power players (former presidents and former cabinet members among them) to push this idea forward when it was still in it's infancy and not well-thought out at all. In the meantime, the folks who really got jammed were a) the patients and b) the workers at Theranos. The energy spent strong-arming the workers could have been put into helping them develop the product. Then of course there is the apparent willful blindness of the FDA who gave Theranos an FDA-cleared stamp. Ironically enough, John Oliver's program (also on HBO) presented exactly why the public should steer clear of any FDA-cleared products just one week before this was aired. All the while we're left to ask Was Elizabeth Holmes really the next Steve Jobs, or was she herself jobbed when all this was done to help her idea take flight?
