TL;DR
Season 3 has no right being associated with the first 2 seasons.
If Season 3 werent riding the coattails of better seasons, it would be acknowledged for the rubbish it is.
Review:
Seasons 1 & 2 display some incredible story writing. The characters had motivations, compelling inner conflict and development.
The 3rd season is about tackling the emerging superhuman trafficking market which is an analogy to human trafficking and child soldier indoctrination.
I was excited for mature and multifaceted subject matter spearheaded by show runners with a successful track record of crafting intricately woven plot threads, with engagingly high stakes and satisfying conclusions.
What we got was something closer to poorly written fan fiction by someone with no sense of story structure. Someone who thinks contrived plot twists are a substitute for story arcs. Thankfully, the writers knew they werent good enough to tackle heavy hitting subject matter, so we're left with a cartoonishly simplistic take rather than a gritty, dark one.
The storylines in Season 3 have no weight to them. The "characters/caricatures" don't have a plan to deal with the amorphous problem. Interesting ideas are raised but never mentioned again. There are too many useless subplots that add nothing to the season and there are no consequences/ cause and effect for anyones actions. Things just happen to people and everyone goes home unchanged.
The only positive about the show is that it has a few easter eggs to better comic book storylines. It hurts to see Season 3 go so far downhill.
I regret tweeting Greg Weisman and binging YJ on Netflix so the show would come back. All I can do now is warn others and cancel my DC nation subscription... Unless Doom Patrol season 2 is a thing lol thats not so bad.
