Sorry- I thought the movie was a sappy melodrama. A combination of “To kill a Mockingbird,” and “The notebook” it tells the repetitive story of a beautiful outcast girl from a family with an abusive father who is defended by a righteous lawyer and has a happy ending with her first love. The movie had great acting and beautiful scenery. Kya’s survival is probably explained more clearly in the book. It’s hard to believe the story when the older Kya is always wearing beautiful, clean, stylish clothes that fit her perfectly. How many impoverished, abandoned children look like that? The time constraints of the movie likely prevent a believable description of how an illiterate ten year old girl survives alone for fifteen years to become a wealthy, brilliant writer with a very scientific mind.
