I hold the Gods responsible for tragedy that befell the people of that community. Because the Gods know that the situation can be averted through other means like sacrificing animals and having other ceremonies and or to the worst, inform the Kingdom that son that was to be killed was still alive somewhere or even the conspiracy theories about deceitfulness between the Representative of the Gods and some elders could be something that can be explained.
