The cinematography in this movie is far too dark. There are exactly 2 major action sequences in this movie and they both suffer from (1) shaky cam, (2) aggressively fast cuts and, (3) being too damn dark. There's a 4th element here and that's there's no stakes worth caring about. Tom Hardy's anti-hero is mildly sympathetic but the character he's charged with protecting are pure cardboard. Ironically, they also do a decent job of defending themselves, wracking up an impressive kill count on their own. Everything feels meaningless.
A massive step down for Gareth Evans.
