TENET - Short Review
I finally got to watching Tenet last night (since it's out on Prime) and quite honestly I don't understand why everyone had such a huge problem with it. This could be another masterpiece Nolan had stashed away beneath a pile of unwashed clothes, giving it a significant stench from the overused underwear, but that's about it. The idea was outdated yet fresh, an oxymoron you'll only hear with regards to Nolan's movies. Maybe the inconsistencies in the storyline initially would have triggered a sense of misunderstanding but all of that was brought together in an eventual crescendo right at the end. Maybe, we're so used to the storyteller mouth-feeding us with hints to look in the right direction that we kind of get distracted by our social/digital or overthinking vices and don't even pay keen attention to what's actually happening on screen. After frolicking around several friends for an opinion on the movie, many had said 'you need to watch it a second time to actually understand what's happening..' and I thoroughly disagree. The movie for me is a one-time watch and all the eventual details are quite evident. I had no difficultly understanding any of the bizarre turns that took place. For those of you who haven't seen it, just remember these lines, "what's happened has happened..." one of the key life lessons any monk sitting on a Himalayan peak will tell you or for those of you who don't like to travel... just ask someone elderly, they'll render the same advice. Is it one of the best movies I've ever seen? No, but I'll gladly place it in my stock of top 50. A very solid underrated film only because viewers expect it to have a similar grandeur to any other Nolan movie that blew their mind... This is not exactly meant to blow your mind, it's just a subtle hint to a topic that's been captured before even in Interstellar... "Who are they... They are us...."
