over the top acting makes the ridiculous situations even more absurd than they already are.
If it were funny or even bizarre situations being dealt with by identifiable people it might work. But in this show the actors are all competing with each other to be crazier than the rest, and the result is a bunch of people bouncing off the walls, rolling their eyes, screeching and inducing winces in their desperate attempts to deal with really tired material.
Maybe if there had been just one character who played it relatively straight, just tried to come across as a human being one might actually encounter, with the kinds of reactions a real human being might have, this might have worked, although most of the jokes are so tired and lame it still would have been a bad show, but maybe not the absolute disaster that it is.
