It was engaging at first as the story arch and characters were quite riveting. Then somewhere in the middle of the season towards the finale, between the chase and capture scenes, it turns out to be pretty much not that epic as the show claims to be. So many overcomplication dramatic things are in this show just so that the creaters could showcase it as "fresh", when it's the same old 'good vs evil' storyline. The "evil" felt their motives were totally justified even if the action bought forth were just plain cruel. Whereas, the "good" part feels so underwhelming, that even actress' acting prowess can't save it.
Maybe the show creators trying to save "the road to heroic" or "change in personality" storyline for their upcoming seasons... So overall it is not that bad except the finale that left a bad aftertaste. Season 2 doesn't seem that much promising after watching quite weak potrayal of a heroine all throughout the series. We get it, you are typical hero who don't want to be a hero but had to do it because the world is depending on you now🙄 but the "heroic" thing she did in the end is nothing but a waste of time!
Don't get me started on the so obvious hints on "friends or lovers" trope scattering throughout this season and on all the nickels that could make anyone filthy rich hearing the characters throwing "Saint" around, like people never heard of God or Lord in this bizarre, copied magical (yet not magical) realm. God, it was unneccessarily exhausting.
And the other characters... They were forgettable yet so cliche at the same time that I cannot recall what are their main purpose in this epic (but not epic) show.
Of course, with so many social awareness in the world, & Netflix being a Champ in claiming they are in support of every social issues in US, this particular Netfix production have multiracial actors (basically the majorities of races/ethnicity subscribing to their streaming service) but that's about it...
And I detest the way the creators of the show splitting hairs on every single terms.. Well no wonder, Fjerdans are always trying to kill these "not magic but small science" practitioner, the Grishas. I bet it's confusing for them too.😅🤣
Potato patato, it seems to me Grishas are nothing but witches & wizards. Why twist things when it's not that relevant anyways? So that they can claim it as an original idea? I just can't with this show...
P.S: I wanted to give one star but ended up giving two because of Ben Barnes and Zoë Wanamaker (What can I say, I'm a Potterhead & Prince Caspian is my favourite fellow Narnian). It was nice to know that they were not, you know... dead.
