I hardly watch any TV serial, but as an exception, started watching ‘Nimki Mukhia’ because it seemed to carry a sincere purpose of ‘Women Empowerment’ through socially and legally rightful means, and of course, with commensurate elements of entertainment and melodrama. However, it strayed from its purpose and lost impact mainly due to – (1) the protagonists (heroine Nimki and presumably, the hero BDO Babu) having serious flaws in character to be the flag-bearers of the purpose. Nimki is amenable to all forms of cheating and forgery, specializes in synthetic love leading to marriages and divorces, is more of a vamp and tyrant than a ‘Mukhia’ who would force her unlawful and socially detestable decisions on any one, and would dump any one including her lovers, extra-marital lovers, and of course her own husband and his family if they don’t tow her line, (2) the so called good man and hero, the BDO Babu, a Government official, has no ‘Officer Like Qualities’. He is corrupt, and being a widower, appears to be more on self-duty of finding a wife for himself by breaking couples who have troubled married life, rather than doing his official duties properly. He is a weak character who can be easily seduced or forced (honey-trapped) by the fair sex to commit serious offences, viz, (a) morphing videos as an election officer to disfavor unfavourite candidates and (b) abducting (inducing unforced kidnapping on an adult) a reluctant married/divorced (?) woman, Sweety, much against the wishes of her family and the extant social order of the particular community she belongs to. Both such acts he has done either under pressure or for wooing the lady love Nimki (already a married woman), the heroine of this serial. Thus, both, the hero and the heroine have lost credence and the serial has lost the wind from its sails. Ms Nimki and Mr BDO, please remember that social changes, such as, ‘Women Empowerment’, can only be brought by evolution, and that evolution cannot be forced. It can best be managed by well meaning leaders of character, and not by people like you, who not only lack the same, but are driven by vendetta and confrontation, rather than good will and reconciliation. Ms Nimki, it is you who was in love/infatuation with Babbu (whereas Babbu hated you), it was you who married him for personal gains (Babbu had run away from the marriage, and was made to marry you under duress), it was you who humiliated him and his family in public inviting domestic violence from him (but not in public), it was you who got his father defeated by unfair means, and it was you who vowed to burn/destroy his family. Agreed that Babbu’s family has always ill treated you, but how fair have you been to them, specially your husband Babbu? Now you, BDO and Tunne have abducted Babbu’s sister, Sweety, for getting her married to the BDO? How so ever right your purpose may be, your method is heinous because the matter is extremely sensitive for Babbu. The result is disastrous. Babbu will now be in jail or be hanged for killing/trying to kill his sister Sweety. Don’t you think that you and your accomplices must also get punished by law for abduction, and by society for mishandling a vital societal issue, just for taking revenge (destroying Babbu’s family)? Under such circumstances, your option for any marital reconciliation with Babbu is ruled out, unless the script writer who is hell bent upon ridiculing the upper cast Rajput family of Babbu, manipulates the script and makes a further mockery of it. Therefore, Ms Nimki, you must divorce Babbu Singh, and let him languish peacefully in jail (or rest in peace in hell/heaven, if he is hanged). You must purge yourself of vendetta and vindictiveness, and of course your guilt and conscience (if you have one) before you embark on leading the society as Mukhia. A word for the producers/ script writer – please stop spitting venom under the garb of ‘Women’s Empowerment’, or else, you may keep the pot boiling and keep making fast buck.
