At first, especially upon watching the ending, I thought it was absolute trash! Two uncomfortable hours of my life that I will never get back! I thought it was terrible pacing and scripting with SPOILER ALERT: the worst possible ending where they all just die and the villains win (which I normally love...with movies like SAW etc. but the kid dying...come on now). However, upon some digging and introspection...this is one powerful, refreshing piece of cinema. Apparently, the director hates the slasher genre and this was a slap in the face of that genre and to Hollywood in general (especially with the kid dying, which is normally a no no). The main villain is meant to be in complete control throughout...and guess what, so too is the director, who simply toys with us. I yearned for revenge but I finally understood the subtext of what this movie actually tried to achieve. The remote scene will stay with you for life. Gave it one star at first but have upgraded it to 3 for the above reasons.

Mindboggling how this only has a rating of 26% on Rotten Tomatoes. With the revenge genre being my absolute favorite, this one sits right at the very top, ahead of at least 30 other revenge flicks. Yes, the ending could have been slightly better, but that doesn't take away from the rest of the film. Butler is at his most mesmerizing. Grab your popcorn and get ready for revenge like no other.

"How much blood are you willing to shed ... to stay alive?" A unique premise and suffocating atmosphere lead us to one of the most shocking twist-endings of all time. 10/10 for me! "He doesn't want us to cut through our chains ... he wants us to cut through our feet". Terribly disappointing that most judge the book by its cover and avoid this movie due to its title. It is more intelligent than you think - the entire franchise is brilliantly and intricately worked. It also has the most memorable score while James Wan and Leigh Whannell etched themselves into folklore and Hollywood stardom with the smallest of budgets.

Unique traps/games and visuals (good cinematography) but the whole thing seemed a bit too far-fetched for me, particularly how fast clues were figured out by the characters. The confusing locations and overall set-up of the game were even more far-fetched and extremely unrealistic. The viewer cares very little for the survival of even the main characters.

This movie itself is utter Perfection from start to finish!!!

The ultimate revenge movie. Perfect, unrelenting, brutal!

Baffled as to how this got a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The trailer portrays it as "riveting"...the only thing close to riveting is the mature performance of the main protagonist. Trying to figure out how the script got approved...perhaps due to it being based on some big media tycoon? Slow, dull, drab and boring unfortunately come to mind at the first mention of this movie.

100% on Rotten Tomatoes for a reason! Sci-fi; action; drama; romance; horror; thriller elements and even comedy - one of those rare masterpieces that has all genres packed into one movie. The premise is ahead of its time, the tension is nerve-wrecking and the gradual 'unveiling' of the 'monster' is timed to perfection. My personal favorite movie of all time and yes I feel it is superior to the sequel (which is merely an out-and-out actioner). A cult-classic that has evolved into a timeless artifact in the history of movie-making. James Cameron at his very best with a mere $6 million budget - 10/10!
