Alice Atreides

Guaranteed to jack you up. This was a movie done in an era were the goal of the big summer film was just to fun. Not terribly complex so you don't have to work for it. Just a slew of "wouldn't it be cool if?" scenes. And it is cool and fun.

Pretty sure this an attempt by all involved to get out of a contract kind of like how the Stones did at some point. Gave it two stars because it actually does have production value and the actors did their jobs.

This is a film that requires the right mindset and mood to absorb due to using an odd approach. Rather than the normal focus on story, continuity and character exploration this is virtual immersion that the viewer is meant to experience which is focused on the audio and sensations it invokes and is then complimented with visual stimulus. Like listening to a recorded story in a manner of speaking or being given the experience of being blind. It makes something that really isn't a movie that can be casually replayed over and over to generate feelings yet worth the initial view and perhaps second look for the unique experience of it and afterthoughts.

I give them a lot of credit for coming as close as they did to making it look and feel like it was actually made alongside the original movie using the same resources provided in it's time. That had to be difficult and a labor of love.

This was film was a testament to the MeToo movement except made an era long before it came to pass and an era that overlooked the point. Really. It's era was the shock and awe and too raw for tv one and it failed in a manner of speaking to hold up to the expectations of those times by being too poignant. So it's a take it for what it is or leave it for what it isn't kind of thing.

It's an experience is the best way to put it. This was among many shows from an era where Adult Swim had become popular due to airing anime that couldn't be found elsewhere and was trying to discover what form it's own original programming would take. So as avante garde as it gets to say the least.
