Sadly this is not well adapted from the book. The script is stilted and awkward, the direction is ham fisted and melodramatic. ....to the point of laughability. The editing is clumsy. The casting is just wrong with the exception of Ms Lumley, e.g. the detective's sidekick is supposed to be a very junior officer yet he looks the same age and has reading glasses. Epic fail

All I could think watching this was these old guys have a story to tell and will tell it in their own time, own way and without interruptions, dammit! De Niro, Pacino, Pesci. ....Romano all lay out stunning performances, well acted and well directed. There are no distracting errors of craft here, seasoned veterans all. One could be troubled by the small, peripheral roles of the women but I think that speaks more to mob culture depiction than a Scorsese choice. Enjoyed it very much.

A lovely, lean, contemporary movie about the realities of love and class divide in modern India. Charming but not gushy or sentimental. Loved every minute

This movie is dreadful, primarily due to a poor script and awful direction. The chapter device doesn't work...too short, the battles too long and repetitive, and the conflicts resolve in such a trite, cliched fashion. The accents waiver about, American, a smidge Shakespearean here and there and then the odd French accent. And Matt Damon with a mullet was just too much. Great choice of cast but just a giant mess

Edward Norton is terrific in this movie and it is beautifully shot, but the plot is overworked and Alec Baldwin' s character becomes buffoonish. Norton's performance of someone with Tourette's is incredibly tender and nuanced. Also the music is a treat.
