This is a deep movie — about life, about death, about horrible cruelty (the Holocaust), about kindness, gentleness, and forgiveness. It is about not judging people by their exteriors. There are beautiful cinematic touches, such as a buffalo at a salt lick, viewed through a picture window. The main character finds some peace in the end. Maybe one just has to be older to appreciate this movie. In my 70’s, I found it profound.
