P.S. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK. I AM NO REVIEWER BUT I DID WANNA SHARE MY THOUGHTS AND THERE MIGHT BE SPOILERS IN HERE. READ THIS ONLY IF YOU’VE ALREADY WATCHED THE SERIES AND MAYBE WANNA CONFIRM SIMILAR THINGS YOU FELT ABOUT THE SERIES OR NOT. HOPE THIS WRITE-UP ISN’T V ANNOYING.
So I wrote some things based on the first few episodes but as I progressed through the show, I added more notes.
Whilst watching the first episode...
• I haven’t read the books, I am down one episode, and it’s cute?!!! The question and exclamation marks are because I hope my feelings about it develop as my inicial excitement remains intact.
• Later (down three episodes):
Having to eat my words, some. Something’s just not cohesive here? Like the actors seem alright. The characters seem very one-sided, not sure who to root for? Not feeling what I want to feel? They feel like different people in every episode. Also, when was her friend Taylor anything but not supportive since the v first take? Something’s not adding up. And what’s up with Jeremiah’s sexuality? I am so confused. (I’d hate it if it were added just for diversity points is what I mean because it sure does not come off/play out, naturally. I could be wrong but I did see it as thrown in.) Steven and Conrad are eh/meh too. I only kind of like Belly’s Mom at this point.
Belly is not a nice girl. 😒 😒 😒 😒
Edit: Updated my review to display a 1-star rating.
• Skip, skip, skip it. (At Episode 4, and don’t know why I feel the need to see this series through, anymore.)
• Edit 2: Episode 5 is somewhat palatable. (I like Belly’s Mom, btw.)
• Edit 3: Episode 6 was not bad!!!! One of the fun-ner ones. Conrad kinda shines in this. Belly was much nicer too. You know, I wasn’t trying to be hard on her before. She is a teen, after all! Just that her character between Episodes 2 and 3 was so strange. Star rating is now back at 2.
• Episodes 6 and 7 as standalones weren’t bad. I liked them a whole lot better. I liked Belly and Conrad too. You don’t have to have the same beliefs as the characters you like and this wasn’t my problem before when I said I didn’t like them. Their arcs and characters in the initial episodes were a bit removed from how they were portrayed in the last few. Like we got to see them, understand them or partly get a peek into their heads. Steven and his story seemed ill-placed throughout the series? Sorry, nothing against you, my friend. Shayla is very cute too. I liked Jeremiah too in the last ep.
Anyway, finally, signing off this review with three stars in total. Would love to see some of these actors in other shows too. I daresay I’d be curious about the next season if there is one.
Over and out!
