It’s a surprisingly entertaining movie. Nothing is over the top, except of course the concept itself of moving a house across borders. Grandma Sardar (Neena Gupta) and Grandson (Arjun Kapoor) chemistry works, consistent with longings of that generation, however irrational. John Abraham was a bit of misfit as he couldn’t even try to fake a Punjabi accent or “Hinjabi”, even as Ms. Aditi Rao playing the younger Sardar got it perfectly right, as the vivacious young bride. One could see her becoming a young female entrepreneur, something the movie does not play up enough, for those times. Support cast and bickering are as appropriate for a large family hounding around like vultures on the possible wealth grab once the matriarch croaks. Everyone trying to be on their best behavior around her. It’s hard to see Rakul Preet Singh’s character ever marrying Amreek, but everything can’t be perfect.
That said, a good movie worth watching with family - a calmer, far less jingoistic movie that can be watched on both sides of the border.
