The ending of this book makes its 800 pages worthwhile. While not as outstanding in my opinion as Cutting for Stone, I appreciated the rich history of this part of India. There are many stories that weave back and forth sprinkled with the authors medical knowledge some a bit forced and gory, others interesting. I recommend reading it and have rarely been more moved by its unanticipated ending.

I was appalled listening to the discussion about the deaths of Americans in the Dominican Republic on June 18th.
The comments were disrespectful, stupid and immature and said amidst laughter and lightheartedness in the background.
I have never written to or about a news broadcast or show but this was outrageous
Whether or not one believes these 9 deaths were related, fishy, subversive whatever, they are tragic and deserve respect and a serious discussion not one of fluff and entertainment and again stupidity
An apology is due.
