Oblivious Massacre

Watch the opening scene and then skip ahead to the last scene. Trust me, I'm doing you a favor and saving 2 hours of your life from being wasted. That being said, if you want to have a good laugh, go ahead and check out the *way* over-the-top sexual convulsions and the husband's response to being told Nosferatu is a better lay than he is. I love vampires and how they are wrapped up in eroticism, but this movie seems to revolve around a rape fetish. I can understand that the filmmakers wanted it to be obvious to us what exactly was happening to Ellen during the fits she has, but COME ON! The dramatics were comical. Sometimes less is more. Ellen possesses one quality that explains why Thomas, Anna, and Friedrick love her: she speaks from the heart. Other than that, Ellen frequently acts selfishly and cruel at times. So why is everyone around her riding her dick *so* hard? Please make it make sense. There's a lot more to say about how bad it is, but I feel like what I wrote should suffice.

It's not a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination (ha ha), but it was a fun watch.

This movie was *awful*. My husband got me to watch it. Spoiler: as soon as I saw Emma's body, I went, "That's not a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Someone killed her." Then we get to see Emma and Isaac looking as if they're having a moment later in the film and Lizzy is eyeballing them. I said, "She did it." And whaddaya know! Dead on the money. Predictable and a waste of time. Also boring and not scary at all. The only "scary" parts were tropes we've seen a thousand times before

The writers and director failed in that they didn't want the ending to fall flat, yet that's exactly what happened. If you want to make a metaphor into a movie, you've got to make sure it makes sense as *both* a metaphor and what we are actually seeing take place. The end made no sense. No one would see skin falling off a loved one and think, "gee, I'll just help peel it off!" I think they were trying to make Kay compassionate and it came off abusive - the right call would have been to call some medical professionals in, not perform actions that could hurt your loved one further.

Stories usually hold some sort of meaning or a reason for telling the tale in the first place. I have no idea what the meaning or reasoning for telling this tale was. War journalists are stupid and get themselves and other people killed? For...a picture? Is that the message? Or is it a movie for adrenaline junkies? "I've never been more scared in my life... I've also never felt more alive." Gag me with a spoon. Go jump off a roof if you're looking for thrills, don't put other people's lives in danger. Incredibly disappointing.

The "moral" of this story seems to be that the world is unjust and unfair, but don't do anything to stop the status quo. It's sad because this had the potential to be so much better than it was. At one point, one of the main character's asks, "What if this is real and has been happening forever? Families have been choosing to sacrifice to save the world over and over again..." What exactly are they "saving"? "Civilized" society today is rampant with homelessness, starvation, and violence, *as it has always been*. The real justice would have been to let the world end.

This movie sucked so bad. It should have been called "A Tale of Jerks". It's like they wanted to make new fairy tales, but they screwed it up and did the exact opposite - instead of tales that promote morality, we get tales that promote immorality. You have everything in the world except a kid? It's totally fine to let your husband kill an innocent sea creature and get killed in the process to get one. Whatever gets you what you want. You got thrown out of window to your intended death by the King cause he thought you were ugly? Well, marry him now that you're beautiful cause that's how you get the man *and* the riches. Oh and most likely get your sister killed because you were a total see-you-next-tuesday and lied to her about how you became beautiful. Whatever gets you what you want. You wanted a handsome husband and your dad ordered you to marry an ugly one? Just kill him. Even though he's done nothing to harm you, it's fine. Whatever gets you what you want. I was infuriated watching this movie progress. There were only 2 characters that had a *shred* of moral fibre and they killed both of them off in horrible ways. Do the right thing, you get to die. Do the wrong thing, you get whatever your heart desires. *HORRIBLE* message.

Yet another boring A24 movie. Really tired of these "elevated horror" movies that think they're so sophisticated when, in reality, they're just horrible. An hour and forty minutes of my life wasted and probably a few brain cells killed in the process of watching this.

The music was really good, but the story didn't make much sense and the ending was lackluster. A shame because I was really enjoying it up until the climax.
