Promising trailer, but poor adaptation. It's like the screenwriters read the first few pages of the book and adapted them well, but after the initial attack with the heat ray, they put the book down and couldn't be bothered to finish what they'd started. Instead of the interesting subplots with the artillery man and the priest, half the time is dedicated to a boring post-apocalyptic future which didn't happen in the book. They then ran out of time and killed off the main character. Seriously, I waited two years for this??
