I felt like the show was very lacking and confusing. It had more potential.
[Spoilers]
I don't like the fact that they included a gay couple. Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of it, but it ended as quick as it came. It felt pointless to be honest. All of a sudden Foldo and Jussipo like each other and kiss. There were no signs of the connection so it felt like a last minute thing. Not only that, Jussipo dies just because he got stabbed. I get that people can die because of blood loss but couldn't the characters at least have gotten help? They kind of just crowded around him at his last moments. If he was going to die I would've liked him to have made more of an impact on the story. Again, it seems last minute.
At the end the characters that did survive become knights. But they didn't mention anything about Jussipo. It's like he didn't even exist. Couldn't they have done something special to make it seem like he was somewhat relevant?
At the very end the show reveals a sign of Prince Viridian still alive. But in all honesty it doesn't make me excited for the second season. Maybe because of the way the show was presented altogether. It just made me feel "eh" like it wasn't enough.
Revealing Lavinia with the one who actually had powers was somewhat random to me. I would've liked more hints to it so it would get me interested and thinking.
I like the idea of Lavinia having the powers instead of Tiuri. It gives more interest to another character instead of just focusing all the time on the main character.
It's a bit strange that Lavinia has the power to defeat Prince Viridian when she's barely practiced or has gotten used to her powers.
When Tiuri went to his dad for his help it seemed cliche from there to when his dad died. Runs to Dad for help, bad guys come, Dad hides the son in a closet that just so happens to be slightly open, son witnesses Dad get stabbed and die. It was so predictable. It was so tempted to just skip that part. It's boring if you already know what's going to happen.
It was weird that Iona, Jossipo, Foldo, Arman, and Piak were having a snowball fight when they were testing the snow for the Red Riders. I feel like for anyone, they would be petrified. But fooling around like that? Not only that Iona, Foldo, Jussipo, and Arman are clearly older then Piak, which is 11 years old I believe. Meaning they are most likely teenagers. It's not a good role model especially since this show is a kid's show.
[Ending of Spoilers]
Being a kid's show doesn't mean you can cut the quality of the plot. Of course I don't expect something out of a Hollywood movie. Just something decent at least.
Overall I liked where the story was heading. But I have to say, unless they step up their game with season two, I would NOT recommend this show.
