Hollywood made a movie about Oppenheimer and the creation of the atomic bomb. There are some nominal mention of the potential suffering it would cause the Japan. Many movies/ documentaries/ TV shows have been made to show the atrocities of the Nazis and Japanese. Aside from Ghibli’s (who not coincidentally is Japanese) heartbreaking“Grave of the Fireflies”, I’ve not much seen too much acknowledgment of the tremendous sufferings of Japanese civilian as a result of the war and the two bombs. Was Japan bombed because they didn’t end the war after Hilter killer himself? Or it was a hard handed retaliation after Pearl Harbour? Perhaps they were conveniently located well away from all Europeans, unlike Germany. Who knows? I don’t think enough time has passed for anyone to take a neutral enough standpoint to dissect the rights and wrongs.
My take on the movie? Very long and filled with many good actors. Ultimately it is telling history from a point of view that is neither novel nor creative.
