So an alien invasion is close enough to arrive by the time these kids are dropped off at summer camp... and there’s not even a disbelieving whisper in the background working towards the action to come? this movie’s plot is already flawed.
I’m told whoever wrote this was looking to revive & modernize the old kids on adventure trope. if that’s the case, their idea of modern seems to be violence without youthful charm. The chemistry between these kids feels about as heartfelt as a recited line and their relatable, character building ‘confessions’ feel impromptu, gratuitous and uncomfortable in context.
This movie comes across to me as having been written by someone who doesn’t understand the trope they are trying to revive. Instead, what they’ve produced is a common adult monster movie (that you couldn’t show your own kids) and threw in a bunch of someone else’s kids because that, in their mind, is all it takes to define a genre.
pass on this.
