Where to begin, where to begin. I guess I should begin at the beginning.
The main characters follows a mother, father and their son. The father is killed when a driver plows into him after he and his son take a trip to a convenience store.
After some grieving—they move into another relative’s house and this is where we get to the killer’s m.o. (hence the title of the movie). He goes after his victims during the open house.
Things start getting worse, boring and drawn out from here on out. The movie tries to introduce characters to create a creepy atmosphere, e.g., a woman with Alzheimer’s; and an odd plumber, but they provide nothing to the narrative.
The movie tries to take a page out of The Strangers book with a killer not having any real motive or reason for toying and killing with his victims.
But no plot point or development ever goes anywhere. And we’re just left with an empty movie with no direction. The actors do a fine job but it’s all meaningless.
