A powerful book that recognizes the strategy of shaming folks around climate change is ineffective (50 years of shaming and things are getting worse..., to echo James Hillman). Eisenstein instead suggest we lure folks into an experience of beauty and meaning through paving paths towards reconnection with the living systems of the Earth.

A very solid book. Highly recommended for anyone curious to know more about the interface between depth psychology and religion.

A very powerful book which includes a challenge to play the "race game," where you identify anyone who happens to be white as white in your everyday conversation. So you'd say, for example, "Yeah last night I went to the movies with my white friend, Sue." Sounds strange, right? But we take it for granted when we say, "Yeah last night I went to the movies with my Asian friend, Steve." Thandeka explores why this is with powerful, illuminating stories, and brilliant intellectual insight.

This is a profound follow-up to Perry's brilliant, The Far Side of Madness. In that earlier book he shows how psychosis can serve the evolution of consciousness through dramatic upheavals which invoke archetypal themes and birth new ways of seeing, thinking and being. As Harvard trained psychiatrist Perry is far from ignorant when it comes to the reality of mental illness and the need for psychotropic medication. But he cut his clinical teeth working with young people going through their first psychotic break, about 1/3 of whom tend to stabilize free from any chronic complications. His belief based on experience is that sensitive souls can experience psychosis (the journey to the underworld) in ways that can be healing and transformative for the larger culture. In The Heart of History he develops these ideas through an exploration of kingship and kingship rituals. His work is a wonderful compliment and extensions of Edward Edinger's The Creation of Consciousness and The Christ Archetype.
