I wanted to like the book but it was just too much. Every chapter added a bomb and most were chilling. Also, each chapter was from a different character’s perspective so it became confusing to remember which person was talking. Additionally, chapters jumped backwards and forwards in relation to years. The main plot involved the sick murder of many children. Just when you think you have figured out who was the killer, the plot changes. Likewise, just when you think you know who the good guys are, you realize that, for the most part, there are no good guys. The ending was yet another disappointment, a final twist that made the book hint at further perversions coming in the future.

This movie could have been good but it missed the mark. It was an unsatisfying movie. Usually there is something good that happens during a movie but Brimstone had nothing really. The main male character was a pervert and child molester, not just in part of the movie but throughout it. Even the ending was cruel and punishing to the audience. Also, Dakota Fanning got through the entire film without emoting anything. Her face remained the same throughout the movie. At the end I felt ripped off and disgusted. I don’t recommend it at all.

This movie was way too disturbing. It portrayed a mentally sick woman and the children she got to go along with her twisted actions. Gang torture- no thanks. I can usually watch horror films but this one really got to me. I wish I could unsee it. The only reason I watched it until the end was to see some kind of justice happen, but any justice was too little too late. Even though the screenplay was based on a true story, it just didn’t have to be made. Don’t see it - just choose a different movie to watch. Made me feel dirty.

I had no preconceived idea about this movie but I love outdoor survival stories. Wow. I loved it. When she moved to the cabin, it was obvious that she really didn’t care if she survived. If she had cared she would have taken her survival more seriously. Grief and depression had completely overwhelmed her. She just had to get away and be alone. The male character was perfect in the story. His tone of leaving her alone vs trying to help her was what she needed, and as it turned out, just what he needed too. The movie was quiet and thoughtful without excessive drama and histrionics. A pleasant change from most other movies. The movie got its story across without screaming at the audience. It’s what it didn’t say that said it all. Perfect job, Robin!

This movie tried to be epic but it was another testosterone fueled tribute to toxic masculinity. The scenery was striking and beautiful at times, but at the end, was the story worth telling? I liked the surprise of the queen mother being opposite of expected at the end. The acting was good. The main character was always stooped over and I wondered if the actor just had poor posture or if it was the character he was playing. All I all, it was just too long. The movie could have been shorter and told the same story. Too much of everything made it uncomfortably long to sit through. I don’t want to see any more movies that lengthy.

This movie didn’t know what it wanted to be. It started out as light hearted with a stereotypical young man in love with his babysitter, then did a 180 and became a sick and twisted movie. It made no sense. She had babysat for him since he was 8 years old so would have known him. At some point in his life he must have turned into a sadistic psychopath who had no problem killing people. Just a trashy film that didn’t need to have been made. Ugh.
