I was around when FF7 came out originally. It was a game changer for sure. Now, having said that, let me talk about the good that the remake brings.
Nostalgia: Yes, for those die hard fans you’re gonna get this all over the place.
Fighting Mechanics: This is the one thing that’s keeping me playing this game. The fights are near perfect as you’re constantly doing something. Great design.
Graphics: The graphic design (and just that) is stunning.
Now for the bad...
Voice Acting: Some of the worst I’ve heard of not the worst I’ve heard in a game! It’s cringing to listen to. Especially Barrett
Script: I get that the script was a little wonky back in 1997, but bringing over something similar to the remake wasn’t a good idea. There are parts that just don’t fit and creates an awkward moment...which there are plenty of.
Cinematography: They got the lighting down, but some of their compositions don’t work or even make any sense. They even broke the 180 line rule used in film. It threw my brain for a loop when that happened. Plus, extreme closeup shots are used that have no purpose or don’t even expand on the situation of the scene. It doesn’t help with the story.
Keyframe Animation: This bothered me. A few times you se certain characters moving from A to B and their feet are gliding on the ground while walking. It’s almost as if they’re doing a forward moonwalk.

Overall, I’m quite disappointed with what they released. The slight anime references just don’t fit with the aesthetic of the game and frankly ruins it. If they would have remade the game to have a better screenplay, voice acting, and video editing, this would have been perfect.
