The books were decent enough, but the movie is a condensed, messy pile of a good idea but poor execution. True, it has an essence of the book, but it was changed to fit in a movie runtime and thus the entire build-up was ruined. Ethan is made to be creepier than he is in the books, and a lot is rushed so much that something that occurred halfway through the first book happens within the first minute of the movie. I wouldn't curse this upon my worst enemies.
