I was appalled when I saw and heard an educator in Arkansas say that every child will learn phonics. We have been here before and it did not work. Children are individuals and learn in different ways. Years ago, when I took a semester-long course in teaching reading, that's what I learned. Some are visual learners. Some auditory. Some through touch. Better phonics instruction is a good goal; but treating all children the same is bound to end in frustration. As I had said, we have already gone through the "phonics for everyone" era and failed.
