One possible future, one dog, and his owner who won't give up.
This is the first CA Fletcher book I have read. It's one of those books I wish I'd owned for years, just so I could re-read it every now and again.
In one possible future, only a few people survive. Very few. One encounter between Griz's family and a stranger, leaves Griz chasing the stranger to retrieve their stolen dog Jess. The story is written through the eyes of a young adult with no knowledge of the world other than what they have read in books, so the wording, or lack of punctuation may put a few off, but I strongly advise you to persevere, and immerse yourself in Griz's world.
There are moments in this excellent book that left me deflated, exhilarated, so sad, and often elated. There are twists ahead which made me feel genuine emotion, so I well not lessen their impact by telling you anything about them.
I honestly believe that this book is my favourite of 2020 to date, and have given it five well earned stars.
CA Fletcher, I doff my cap to you.
