I have watched this show from the beginning hoping it will get better. It hasn’t. Edie Falco is bland in this role. It’s like she shows up for work, solves all the problems and calls it a day. Being a retired law enforcement officer, it’s unrealistic for a Police Chief to solve all the problems. That’s what her staff is for and the rank and file officers working the streets. I have no idea why the writers seemed to feel it was necessary to make her gay. Political agenda? Can’t a woman be a Police Chief and be straight? Also, the total disconnect between her and her daughter is annoying. The actress who plays her daughter is a psychologist on the show, yet is hateful to her mother. She doesn’t handle her own life well and always blames her mother for everything. How long is this girl going to persecute her mother for not being there. Either grow up, get over it and have a new relationship with her mother, or don’t have one at all. Also, I don’t like the relationship between the mayor and the Chief’s communications specialist. She has fed him information that she shouldn’t have and the relationship is wrong.
I’m hoping the rest of the season gets better, Edie Falco becomes more relaxed in her role and less wooden and the daughter grows up and gets over herself.
