Yes, the series is based on historical fiction "Empire of the Moghul" by Alex Rutherford.
All the facts are not true, and they can't be true. However, the actors and other associated people did a good job. Babur is the main protagonist, and only his qualities have been emphasized.
Watch without prejudice, indeed a good series.
