In terms of acting and music, this would be a 9/10, because all the actors were great with their roles, and the songs were beautiful. I know the nepotism debate is going on right now, but Sonakshi, Alia, Sanjay, and Varun have all proven that they deserve to be in the industry. However, a good movie simply doesn't thrive on acting. The storyline was quite dull, and many things seemed quite illogical. For example (Spoiler Alert), when Roop (Alia) tells Dev (Aditya) that she had an affair with Zafar (Varun). Considering the time period, most husbands would kicked their wives out if they'd had an affair. They also didn't show much action that described that partition, even though Kalank took place during that time. If the storyline was better, then the movie would have been a nice watch. I won't say I'm surprised though, since many Karan Johar movies fall short in the storyline department. To sum this up, if a friend asked me to watch the movie with them, I'd say yes, but then I'd probably get up a billion times.
