For me this was a bit disappointing in the way it portrayed certain things. For example, why were the Pakistani women all depicted as desperate and overly keen for Kumail' s attention, yet the first white girl he meets surpasses them all? I feel like the lead male was made "relateable" by assimilating to white culture, e.g. not practising Islam. The male lead's family were complete stereotypes in contrast with the female lead's parents who weren't singular and at one point play the role of white saviours when Kumail is racially abused by his audience member. For a movie hailed as being "refreshing" I expected more. It was funny and honest, but in terms of being clever it doesn't go all the way for me.
