I was a small child when we obtained our first TV c. 1954. When Ernie Kovacs appeared on our screen, my parents thought the program very unappealing and did not watch. I thought the program to be very strange, but fascinating.--and funny. This was not Jack Benny and Red Skelton, who I loved, but it was so different. Even the ads for White Owl cigars were hilarious to a nine-year-old who was a bit off center in his own right.

Congrats on the revelations of the threat from the Chinese that almost no one seems to wish to address. I have long thought that the rise of a Chinese empire, its growth in offensive military capabilities, search for foreign ports, economic and cultural imperialism, intellectual rapine, arrogance, and so forth bears a strong similarity to the rise of Japan in the 1930s. God help us if my observation is pertinent.
