I thought the book was wonderful in how they told Jacob's story this time around. I was going to be absolutely bored out of my mind if it was something along the lines of the slice-of-life genre. There are so many books out there that have a wonderful story focused around school life, but this isn't a series about that. It's a story about the call of adventure in a spliced world; the allure of the mysterious and uncharted gives the characters themselves more humanity than anything else. Although I was saddened by the breaking of the relationship between Emma and Jacob, I commend the Riggs for taking this route. At this point, their relationship felt more forced than anything, with broken promises and memories being the forefront tone of how they were progressing. Very interesting read and a wonderful continuation of the original trilogy! Would recommend for past readers!
