As a fan of the franchise I give this 4 stars. As a fan of movies it's a 3. If you don't like gore, don't watch this. It's not a beginning to end blood bath, but they didn't pull any punches. What I didn't like about the film? The story seemed rushed trying to fit a lot of plot into a short time. Also the character introductions seem clunky and awkward, this is probably because they are trying to keep non-fans in the loop. Some of the scenes, the set design misses the mark and you can tell it's fake. They probably used some of that budget on the CGI because that is very good. I found it to be corny at times, but I think the really hardcore fans will like that, as there is dialogue and references pulled from the game. What I liked? As mentioned the CGI was good and the fights were great. They introduced a lot of characters and showed off a ton of their skills and powers. If you like the games and previous movies you will enjoy this one. I feel like it's hard to get an unbiased opinion of this movie, if you compare it to recent super hero movies like the Marvel Universe. This is not like that, which is good and bad. There is definitely a setup for future movies and I think if they slow down the plot and fill it in with more dialogue about the events going on, it would improve the overall experience. I would and will watch it again. I'm looking forward to the next ones!
