here’s the pro’s and con’s:
Pros:
The game is a fun JRPG, with turn based combat being really enjoyable. It can get repetitive but it’s quick paced unlike FF where it’s really slow.
The characters look good and the game itself has a nice cell shade look
The world of Fiore itself is nice, and Magnolia is recreated very close to the source
Music is very FTesque, light hearted and fun
Upgrading the rank of the guild and upgrading things can be fun (depends if you enjoy grinding)
Magic chains are cool to showcase the bonds between your guild mates and their fighting styles
Now for the cons:
No English voice over; if you watch in English, you’re out of luck as it’s all Japanese dub
Very choppy on the Switch; I have the Lite so I don’t know if it’s less choppy on tv move for the regular Switch
Fighting can be repetitive (use magic or attack with a melee, rinse, repeat)
Character models are virtually the same; you end up fighting the same creature type over and over
Nothing amazing to grind for? You don’t a lot of bonus unlockables except a few costumes and some minor game/story related stuff. Nothing worth major time
Skips over major events of the anime and compacts the rest in a glossed over version
Environments are pretty bland; not a lot of differences and Magnolia itself is basically just walking around finding random people for jobs
Requests are mostly fetch quests and they will keep repeating them (Time for ____...again)
Ridiculous amounts of paid DLC content that should be included for free as unlockables
I give it 4 stars because I am still enjoying the game and I am making sure to not view it as a AAA title, which it isn’t. It’s not a perfect JRPG, it definitely lacks in many areas, and it’s a game that you’ll play and then promptly move on without thinking of going back to it. I love Fairy Tail so I can overlook it’s shortcomings to just enjoy playing the game, but if you don’t and are just looking for your next game to go through, I’d avoid.
