This movie made me think of The Harlem Children's Zone and Geoffrey Canada. The Alchemy program is like a pipeline that propels our at risk children from youth to success, giving them, as Canada coined, "lift-off velosity." I was moved tremendously, my heart broken and thrilled simultaneously. While Canada's program costs $5-6,000 per child per year...a pittance compared with potentially $60,000 per one incarcerated person per year...Alchemy can be replicated at the grassroots level, with little funds, anywhere there are wise men (and women) who love our children.
