One of the best movies ever made in India on Open Defecation. The main problem with us (Indian Audience) that we always appreciate and watch the movies that have big star-cast and ignore the ones without them. Open defecation is a grave issue in India and the movie sticks to the topic without any distractions. The overwhelming acting of all the characters creates a phenomenal impact and does justice to the subject. Numerous moments in the movie would point out a question to all of us: "Why can every Indian not fulfill a basic need: toilet?". Unfortunately, the fate of the movie has been synonymous with the very issue it dealt with. It could not do well in the box office only because, it did not have great star-cast, great fighting sequences, romantic scenes or for the matter of fact any such Bollywood masalas that usually attracts the audience to the cinema hall. The bottom line is the movie it is not so called a "glamorous movie" exactly like it's subject, "Open Defecation".
I strongly feel that we, Indians have miles to go to become a mature audience. If we someday become so, movies like "Mere Pyare Prime Minister" would not have to fight with other stupid movies that just snatches away about 2.5 hours from our lives and offers nothing to take away with.
I am happy that the start of a new era has begun. A new way of watching or experiencing movies has been set off and it will change the outlook of all the movie lovers. The truth will prevail and it will be proven someday that Indian Cinema is as good a medium of experiencing life as any other classic World Cinema. The allegation on Indian audience, "Masala is what gets you money.", "Public ko entertainment aur masala hi accha lagta hai"...etc. will prove to be a sheer way of being lazy and making stupid movies out of no hard work and research.
