2024.07.08 Better than the 2nd one, but that's not saying much.
Despicable Me 1 was an instant classic, compliments of the good voice actors, fun story, and (not in small part) the villain Vector.
Then Despicable me 2 happened and I struggle remembering anything about that money grab, except that the villain was some fat wrestler guy.
Total redemption on the 3rd movie, once again not in small part due to the hilarious villain Balthazar Bratt.
So went in with high hopes for the 4th one, only to find a forced french villain that sounded almost like Gru at times with none of the humour that one would expect from something voiced by Will Ferrell, coupled with a bunch of filler scenes like the Karate and Tennis ones that are just isolated gags. Then a couple of nudges to Terminator and Spiderman. And moments that made me wonder if I was watching Vector again trying to kidnap the kids.. or was it Syndrome from The Incredibles?
Very few memorable funny moments, mostly compliments of the Minions.
On the plus side, if the pattern holds, Despicable Me 5 is due to be great!
Lower your expectations before watching this.
